Muscle Gain Myths – Every pound of muscle you add burns 50 extra calories a day

Topic Starter: Is it a myth?

Lifting Weights Will Make You “Bulky”:

Lifting weights will actually help you lose fat and gain muscle, provided you are eating enough protein.

You Need To Overdose On Protein:

This is an old myth of long ago, where some were really overdosing on steroids, not protein. The science behind protein is that around 0.63 grams per pound of body-weight is the most you need. More than that did not really gain. Load up on brain-healthy veggies.

You Can’t Lose Fat At The Same Time:

This is a myth with a small piece of truth. While you can add muscle or either lose fat, they can also be done concurrently. The trick is to stay at a low calorie deficit (around 100-200 calories below your baseline level) and get plenty of protein. Also, it would be important to do a mix of weightlifting and cardio, or perform some Hiit workouts. This is complicated and stressful, it might be a good idea to do one at a time. Your choice.

You Have To Train like A Bodybuilder:

This is an old myth, back when the bodybuilders were on the beach, who would tell you the only way to gain muscle was to train like them. It’s not all that extreme. A little weight lifting and some cardiovascular activity will help you get leaner and more muscular. Those guys were training 7 days a week, a gallon of milk a day. The real deal was these guys were taking large amounts of (then legal) steroids. Any kind of lifting would cause them to gain muscle.

You Can’t Do Cardio:

Cardio is very important, not doing it can lead to obesity. You should always do some cardiovascular activity, no matter what you’re doing, muscle gain or fat burning
